La Habra Homes CA
La Habra began in the 1800's when Don Mariano Reyes Roldan got 6,698 acres of land. He named this land Rancho Canada de La Habra, which meant, "pass through the hills." In the 1890's settlers began to arrive to buy parcels of the land. Among these settlers were the grandparents of the 37th President, Richard Nixon. By 1896 the community was founded and named La Habra. At this time a U.S. Post Office was built as well as a rural school.
By 1908 the walnut, citrus, and avocado industries flourished, despite the earlier struggles with droughts. By 1916 the city had three general stores, a bank, a hotel, a meat market, two restaurants, a bakery, a barbershop, a dance hall, and a local newspaper. This little town was to accommodate the oil and citrus workers. In 1925 the population was 3,000 and the city of La Habra was incorporated. By 1928 the town was the largest avocado center.
La Habra recieved the All-American city award in 1974. It was founded to be outstanding in housing needs, business revitalization, human relations, environmental protection, boosting industry, broadening educational opportunities, and community services. There were over 100 civic organizations and clubs helping the City's success and progress. The city focuses on economic enhancement, public safety, redevelopment, infrastructure improvements, and beautification.
Today La Habra has a population of nearly 62,000. The city provides services including water and sanitation services, police protection, street maintance, and animal control. The city has three great school districts. There are two high schools, three
middle schools, and eight elementary schools within these school districts. There are also a few private and specialty schools.
La Habra also offers its residents a Children's Museum, 20 parks, Community Theater, diverse Community Center and a Tennis Court. The Children's Museum is a hands on place for children of all ages. There is a science station, touch tables, changing exhibits, and much more.
