Placentia Homes CA

Placentia California began in 1837 when Juan Ontiveros was granted the San Juan Cajon De Santa Ana by the Mexican Governor. Ontiveros built and lived in an adobe home. This was near today's intersection Kraemer Blvd and Crowther Ave. The adobe stayed there until the 1970's and was the oldest continuously occupied residence. Daniel Kraemer was the first to buy 3,900 acres of land. This started Placentia's influx of settlers in 1865. An additional 100 acres was acquired 3 years later by William McFadden and his wife. In the following years other settlers arrived and the community began to develop. At first the crops in the city were walnuts, avocados, grapes, and oranges that were of poorer quality, until Richard Gilman brought the first Valencia orange grove and planted it in Placentia. The Valencia oranges were the major crop but eventually the orange groves were wiped out.

As the community began to develop, schools and churches began being built. At first the school districs name was Cajon School Distric but in 1878 the name was changed to Placentia School District. Placentia means "pleasant place to live." As a result of A.S Bradford persuading the Santa Fe Railroad to re-route their track through the area, Placentia was placed on the map. This occured in 1910. A station was built and packinghouses were established. The main streets of the town were laid out by A.S. Bradford. Placentia was incorporated in 1926 due to 500 votes of citizens. In 1960 the population was only 5,000 but by 1970 the population increased five-fold. Today the population of Placentia is about 45,000 residents.

The city has wholesome recreation, beautiful suburban homes, stately churches, and good schools. Placentia is part of the Placentia-Yorba Lind Unified School District. There are numerous public elementary schools: George Key, Brookhaven, Golden Melrose, Morse, Tynes, Ruby Drive, Sierra Vista, Wagner, and Van Buren. There are also three public middle schools; Valadez, Kraemer, and Tuffree, and there are three high schools in the city; El Dorado,Valencia, and El Camino Real.

Placentia also has many places for people to shop and dine as well as great parks for the families. The city holds several annual events, such as the Fourth of July Fireworks Festival. This festival has fireworks, children's competitions and a community softball game. There is also summer concert series that is held July through August. This is great for families to enjoy great music and a picnic at the local tri-city park. In October they hold the Heritage Festival and Parade. This parade has been a great tradition for the city since 1965. Included in the parade are clowns, high school bands, and notable residents. There are also fair booths to enjoy.
